The concept of the style advisor has been around for some time and has been proliferated in recent years on TV shows such as Trinny and Susanna’s 'What Not to Wear', Gok Wan’s 'How to Look Good Naked' and 'Ten Years Younger'.

Increasingly, style advisors have stepped onto the high street and into some of its most popular stores. While traditionally you could only enjoy a personal shopper while on a spree in London, you can now relax and enjoy the services of a style advisor in some high street retailers across the country too.

In essence, a style advisory service aims to offer you the comfort of a private shopping lounge, to which you can bring a selection of outfits to try on. Your style advisor can then help you find the right sizes and can also make constructive suggestions on what colours, shapes and styles suit you.

An in-store style advisory service is free of charge, and you’re under no obligation to buy anything; however, should you wish to do so at the end of your session, you’ll typically be able to jump the queues at the tills and you could even enjoy having your purchases gift wrapped for you for free.

Style advisory services are beneficial for a number of reasons. If you’re at a loss as to what you should be wearing, what suits your figure and what your style is, it can help to tease out your own innate style with a little helpful advice from an expert.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for one particular outfit, but would enjoy the indulgence of a style advisor, you could use it for that purpose too. You could also arrange a style advisory session with friends for a girly shopping day out together. You can even enjoy a bought-in lunch, a glass of bubbly or a beauty treatment while you wait.

To begin with, your style advisor will chat to you about what you’d like to achieve from the appointment. They will take your sizes, favourite colours and find out a little bit more about what type of thing you do and don’t like to wear.

You can then either walk the floor with your style advisor, or relax in the shopping suite while your advisor picks and chooses a range of clothes for you to try on. You can then try on as many outfits and combinations as you like and your advisor can help you to find the looks and styles that suit you and your figure.

What's more, because style advisors are trained by industry experts, they are also able to inform you about what key trends will be in for that season, so you can make better informed decisions about what looks you’d like to go for.

So if you’re struggling to figure out what trend, style or look in women’s clothing suits you, you could benefit from meeting with a style advisor in one of many high street fashion stores.
